Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning in Ontario, CA | Lantern Chimney Sweep
We’re an independent chimney service company providing DuraFlex service in Montclair, Ontario, and surrounding areas with liner cleaning, inspection, and repair. DuraFlex flexible stainless liners are built to last decades, but in Ontario’s specific mix of older brick chimneys, Santa Ana wind events, and sporadic fireplace use, they collect debris and creosote differently than they do in colder, heavier-use markets. That’s the work we handle every week and why homeowners call (855) 341-8132 when the fireplace starts acting up.
If you have a DuraFlex SW, Pro, or Smooth Wall liner in an Ontario home, our crews know these systems inside and out. We clean, diagnose, and repair them with OEM-matched components, not hardware-store substitutes. When a liner is sound, we tell you plainly. When it needs attention, we show you exactly what we found.
Why Ontario Residents Choose Us for DuraFlex Service
Most chimney sweeps can run a brush through a flue. Far fewer can tell you whether the DuraFlex liner inside that flue is still doing its job. We can, and the difference comes from years of hands-on work with these specific systems across the Inland Empire.
Len Castorena grew up in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Pomona and has spent the better part of three decades working on the chimneys and fireplaces of homes he knows best. He brought that same straightforward approach to Lantern Chimney Sweep: diagnose first, explain clearly, and fix what actually needs fixing. For Ontario homeowners, that means a crew that recognizes DuraFlex failure patterns before they become smoke-in-the-living-room problems. We also offer DuraFlex repair in Chino for nearby residents.
We’re not a franchise and we don’t subcontract the critical work. The same technicians who sweep your Ontario chimney are the ones who inspect the liner, replace the cap, and reseal the crown. That continuity matters when you’re dealing with a relining system where every component has to work together.

Common DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning Problems We Solve in Ontario
- Glazed creosote on Smooth Wall liners. Ontario’s mild winters mean fireplaces get used in short bursts during cold snaps rather than steady seasonal burning. Those fires never get hot enough to burn off creosote, so it builds up as a hard glaze, especially at the offset bends in older brick chimneys. DuraFlex’s smooth interior surface is great for draft, but it makes that glaze stubborn to brush out without the right tools.
- Debris-packed corrugations from uncapped chimneys. Many Ontario homes built in the 1950s and 1960s never had a chimney cap installed. Wind-blown leaves, bird nests, and baked-on debris settle into the corrugated walls of a DuraFlex liner and pack tight. The first cleaning on these systems often takes twice as long as a standard sweep.
- Santa Ana downdraft smoke rollout. Ontario sits where Santa Ana wind events hit hard. When gusts push down an uncapped or under-capped chimney, they force smoke back through the damper and into the house. A properly fitted DuraFlex rain cap with a spark screen makes a measurable difference, and we install those regularly.
- Moisture-wicked insulation jackets on DuraFlex Pro. The Pro double-wall liner has an insulation wrap that does a great job retaining heat, but if the top plate or cap was never installed correctly, that jacket absorbs rainwater near the termination. Over years, the outer wrap degrades and the liner’s efficiency drops, especially in Ontario’s dry-then-rainy seasonal swings.
- Failed appliance connectors and bottom joints. Flex liners are only as good as their connections. We routinely find loose clamp orientations or missing appliance connector screws on liners that were dropped in years ago by someone in a hurry. The result is a slow draft leak at the damper, smoke smell in the house on windy days, and a liner that is not performing the way it should.
DuraFlex Service in Ontario: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
Ontario’s older neighborhoods near Euclid Avenue are full of mid-century ranches where the original brick chimney was never capped. Combine that with the Inland Empire’s hot, dry summers, and you get bird nests and debris baked into a hard, crusty mass that a DuraFlex liner’s corrugations trap tightly. This isn’t a problem we see as often in newer Ontario subdivisions in 91764 or 91761 where homes were built with caps from day one, or in areas like DuraFlex in San Antonio Heights where newer construction prevails. It’s an older-neighborhood pattern, concentrated in the original tract housing that spreads out from the historic core. What it means for DuraFlex owners specifically: the first cleaning on one of these systems often takes longer than the sweep itself, because we’re not just brushing creosote, we’re breaking up and vacuuming out years of compacted material that has fused to the liner walls. If your Ontario home was built before 1970 and you’re not sure whether the chimney has ever been capped, chances are good there’s a surprise waiting inside that liner.
DuraFlex Models & Products We Service in Ontario
Our crews work on the full DuraFlex product range: the SW single-wall flexible stainless kits, the Pro double-wall insulated liner system, the Smooth Wall flexible liner, and the Rain Cap and Deluxe Cap termination assemblies. We keep OEM top plates, appliance connectors, clamp kits, and caps in stock for faster turnaround on Ontario service calls.
When a component on your liner needs replacement, we use DuraFlex OEM parts because the liner’s UL listing depends on matched components. We’ll substitute quality aftermarket hardware only for non-structural items like cap screens and fasteners. If the liner itself is pitted through or the insulation is saturated, replacement is the honest call, and we’ll show you the camera footage before recommending it. For more on the systems themselves, see our DuraFlex sales & service page.

AfterDuraFlex Service Pricing in Ontario
What you’ll pay depends on what we find. A standard DuraFlex liner cleaning in Ontario generally runs $189 to $325 depending on liner condition, accessibility, and whether this is a first-time cleaning on an older system. Adding a cap installation or lining repair moves the number up from there, and we’ll always walk you through the line items before any work begins.
Here’s what shapes the final price:
- Standard liner sweep: $189 – $325
- First-time deep clean on uncapped mid-century chimney: typically 30 – 50% more due to debaked debris removal
- DuraFlex cap or top plate replacement: quoted after roof inspection
- Appliance connector or clamp repair: quoted during the visit
Every estimate is free and includes a camera inspection with a photo report. You’ll see what we see before you agree to anything. Call (855) 341-8132 to book, and we’ll give you an exact number based on your home in Ontario.

FAQs – DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning in Ontario
Yes, and in some ways occasional use creates more cleaning work than steady use. Short, sporadic fires during Ontario’s brief cold snaps produce lower flue temperatures, which means creosote settles on the liner walls instead of burning off. Left alone, that creosote glazes over and becomes harder to remove each year. Even if you burn only a dozen fires a season, schedule an annual inspection. Call (855) 341-8132 and we’ll let you know what your liner actually looks like inside.
Santa Ana wind events in Ontario create strong downdrafts that push smoke back down the flue, especially when the chimney lacks a proper rain cap or the top plate is sized wrong for the liner. We see this constantly in older Ontario neighborhoods where original brick chimneys were never capped. The fix is usually a DuraFlex cap with a spark screen, properly fitted to the liner termination.
It can be. Cracked or spalling mortar around the crown lets water seep into the masonry shell. That moisture works its way down to the liner’s bottom joint and rusts it over time, even though the liner itself may still look sound from the inside. The brick problem becomes a liner problem eventually. We inspect both during service, and if the brick is crumbling, we’ll talk through crown sealing or masonry repair options.
Yes. We run a camera through the liner during the cleaning and look for pitting, through-wall corrosion, separated seams, or saturated insulation. You’ll see the footage and we’ll tell you plainly whether the liner is cleanable and sound, or whether it has reached the end of its service life. No guesswork, no pressure.
Yes. The liner’s UL listing depends on matched components, so we use DuraFlex caps, top plates, appliance connectors, and clamp kits on any DuraFlex system. Aftermarket parts only get used for non-structural items like cap screens and hardware. It’s the right way to keep the system performing as designed.
